Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Civil Estimating Manager to join our Pre-Contracts team in Perth. Reporting to the Executive Pre-Contracts Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of estimators in delivering accurate and timely estimates across a variety of civil construction infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-End Estimation Management: Oversee the entire estimating process from start to finish, ensuring that all estimates are accurate and comprehensive.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a small, collaborative team of estimators, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Budget Preparation: Develop detailed project budgets by preparing and pricing estimates in their entirety.
- Peer Reviews: Conduct peer reviews of estimates completed by other team members to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
- Preliminary Preparation: Collaborate with the Executive Pre-Contracts Manager to prepare and review project preliminaries.
- Risk and Opportunity Analysis: Perform thorough risk and opportunity analyses prior to tendering, identifying potential issues and opportunities that could impact project outcomes.
- Tender Documentation: Prepare tender assumptions, clarifications and queries to support the submission process.
- Contract Management: Assist with negotiating contracts and agreements and administer relevant correspondence as required.
- Reporting: Provide monthly reports to management on project progress, variations and claims, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of any changes or updates.
- Compliance: Identify and address any issues affecting compliance, working closely with the Executive Pre-Contracts Manager to ensure that all projects meet the required standards.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other external stakeholders, ensuring that all risks, opportunities and tender conditions are clearly communicated to senior management.
- Estimation Process Implementation: Efficiently execute all stages of the estimation process, including methodology, estimate organization, take-off, pricing, review and closeout.
- Pre-Contracts Gate Process: Implement the Pre-Contracts Gate process and prepare relevant documentation for Gates 3/4/5.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in a senior estimating role within the civil construction industry, with particular exposure to civil tenders involving earthworks, concrete, NPI, roadworks and drainage. Key qualifications and attributes include:
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of estimating experience, with a strong understanding of civil construction methodology and the National Code of Practice.
- Education: Formal tertiary education in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Project Management, Contracts Management or a similar field is desirable.
- Software Proficiency: Expert experience with estimating software is highly regarded.
- Project Exposure: Experience with tenders on large-scale projects valued between $10-100M.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Self-Starter: Proactive and able to work independently, while also being a collaborative team player.
